Description

The Angico is a driving moccasin, which is the reason it is the most comfortable shoe in the collection. The sole is not a flat piece of leather but a black rubber sole studded with rounded pebbles that continues up the back of the heel, so the shoe grips, cushions and bends with the foot from the first hour to the last.

In cognac the construction is on full display. The apron is joined by hand around the toe in a thick ivory thread that reads clearly against the tan leather, and the leather gathers very slightly at each stitch in the way only a hand-lasted moccasin does. Across the vamp sits the penny strap, with the classic slot at its centre and a braided edge worked into the leather.

Cognac is the brown that behaves like a neutral without going dull. It sits with navy, cream, grey and denim, and it deepens as it wears, so the pair looks better in its second year than its first.

How to wear it

  • With cropped trousers that end above the ankle, so the whole shoe stays visible.
  • With grey or navy tailoring, where the tan lifts the whole outfit.
  • With straight denim turned up once, which is what most owners actually do.

Size & fit: please read before ordering

Made on the same French last, cut slim and precise. If your feet are slim to average, order your usual size. If they're wider, we'd suggest sizing up.

A driving moccasin has no lacing and no strap to adjust, and the leather is soft enough that it moulds to the foot within a few wears rather than stretching indefinitely. If you are between sizes or have a high instep, take the larger of the two. If you are unsure, write to info@mangara.be before you order. It is faster than a return.

Materials and care

  • Upper: calf leather, Leather Working Group certified tannery
  • Construction: hand-lasted moccasin, apron stitched by hand in contrasting ivory thread
  • Vamp: penny strap with central slot and braided edge
  • Lining and insole: cushioned
  • Sole: black rubber driving sole with rounded studs, wrapping the heel
  • Heel: flat, approximately 0.5cm

Wipe with a barely damp cloth and let the leather dry naturally, away from any heat source. Feed it with a neutral conditioner from time to time so the cognac keeps its depth.
