Comfortable sandals aren't an accident — they come down to a few things you can check before you buy. Here's what actually makes a leather sandal comfortable, and how to choose the right pair for your feet, whether they're wide, narrow, or somewhere in between.
1. Real leather that softens to your foot
Quality full-grain or calf leather is supple from the first wear and moulds to your foot over time, instead of rubbing like stiff synthetics. Our sandals use LWG-Gold leather for exactly this reason.
2. A footbed and heel you can walk on
Look for a considered footbed and a stable heel. A block heel (roughly 4–9 cm) spreads your weight and is far easier to walk in all day than a stiletto. Flat? Make sure there's a little structure, not just a thin sole.
3. Straps that adjust
Adjustable ankle straps, buckles and toe-ring styles let you fine-tune the fit — the single biggest comfort factor, especially if your feet change size through the day.
Choosing for wide feet
If your feet are on the wider side, favour open, adjustable styles — strappy sandals, slides and toe-ring flats give the most room, and it's worth going up half a size. Closed, narrow styles are the least forgiving. Our shoes are cut on a French last (a slightly slim fit), so our fit guide walks you through exactly how to size up.
Choosing for narrow feet
Take your true size and lean on adjustable straps to lock the foot in place, so there's no slipping at the heel.
Break them in gently
Even great leather needs a few short wears to settle. A snug (never tight) fit at the start is normal — the leather is getting to know you. Keep them lasting with our leather care guide.
